Symptoms of Dengue and Treatment

 In Delhi dengue is increasing at a very high speed .so below are the symptoms and treatment of Dengue.

Symptoms of Dengue

Symptoms, which usually begin four to six days after infection and last for up to 10 days, may include
  • a sudden, high fever
  • severe headaches
  • pain behind the eyes
  • severe joint and muscle pain
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • skin rash, which appears three to four days after the onset of fever
  • mild bleeding (such a nose bleed, bleeding gums, or easy bruising)
Sometimes symptoms are mild and can be mistaken for those of the flu or another viral infection. Younger children and people who have never had the infection before tend to have milder cases than older children and adults. However, serious problems can also develop.

These include dengue hemorrhagic fever, a rare complication characterized by high fever, damage to lymph and blood vessels, bleeding from the nose and gums, enlargement of the liver, and failure of the circulatory system. The symptoms may progress to massive bleeding, shock, and death.

This is called dengue shock syndrome (DSS).

People with weakened immune systems, as well as those with a second or subsequent dengue infection, are believed to be at greater risk for developing dengue hemorrhagic fever

Treatment of Dengue


Appropriate medical attention often saves the lives of patients with the more serious dengue hemorrhagic fever.To aid recovery, It is recommended:----
  • Take plenty of bed rest
  • Drink lots of liquid to avoid dehydration.
  • Take medicine to bring down fever,headache and joint or muscle pain, but always avoid taking Aspirin and non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as these drugs may increase the bleeding tendency associated with some of these infections
  • A platelet transfusion is indicated in some cases if the platelets level falls significantly juice of papaya leaves is recommended for curing dengue fever two tablespoons of papaya leaf juice once a day, made from squeezing 4 leaves (not the stem )is to be given to the patient ,do not heat the juice.Even though it taste bad ,it would help to come out of this illness.
  • Nutritive value of papaya leaf:-- papaya leaves contains very high amounts of vitamins A, C, E, K, B Complex and especially high in B17 (laetrile, which is said to be used for the treatment of cancer). Moreover, papaya leaf juice increases the number of WBC count (white blood cells) in our body.
  • papaya leaf juice could be given along with other medicines to the dengue patient

Taking adequate rest and drink plenty of water and other fluids, whether the patient is hospitalized or not.Natural cure could help the dengue patients to recover from the sufferings of dengue .

The most important thing to remember is to keep the environment clean to check the spread of dengue ,do not any place unturned as it may become a breeding place for the mosquitoes.
